Calling All Essayaists!!

Acton Scholars are changing our approach for this year’s essay contest. No more questions. What you write is up to YOU.

Have a yearning to test your powers of communication through writing? Do you have something to say about our world? Is there some historical wrong you want to right? Have some profound philosophical questions you wish to explore? Send your essay for assessment for the Acton Scholars 2024 Critical Essay Contest.

Guidelines

  • Essay Type: Write a critical essay on a topic of your choice.
  • Word Count: Essays should be between 1,000 and 3,000 words.
  • Research: Support your claims with relevant evidence and scholarly sources.
  • Formatting: Follow standard academic formatting guidelines, including citations and references.

Prize

  • First Prize: $300 + Publication in our Acton Writing Anthology
  • Second Prize: Certificate of Excellence
  • Third Prize: Certificate of Excellence
  • Shortlisted Entries: Certificates and a feature on our website

Submissions

The submission window is currently open and will close at 11:59 PM EST on September 15, 2024. Students must submit within this submission period to have their essays considered.
